About Bud

My name is Bud Simpson.
Well, no it isn't. No one is actually named Bud, but if your name was Orville . . .
I am not an expert on most things technical, but rather a reasonably high-functioning user. How something works is way less important than how I can use it to my advantage. Everything is a tool. I've been called worse.
My professional background is in commercial photography, mainly in catalog production, products, corporate and annual reports.
I came to photography as the son of snap-shooting parents, and with the help of a couple of good friends and a lot of hard work, I was able to make a comfortable living photographing cans, bottles and the occasional corporate brass hat. I learned my chops shooting color transparency film in all formats, and have adapted that level of craft to shooting digitally. I closed the studio in Kansas City a few years ago, and now I travel the country full-time. My wife Kathi and I sold the house we had lived in for thirty years. Gave away everything that was inside that house and set out for the open road, seasonal work, and volunteer opportunities in our fifth-wheel trailer,The Flying Duchess..
Kathi died suddenly the day after Thanksgiving 2020. After nearly forty years, I'm starting over and will go it alone. The time since has been at times rough and a lot rougher. I am now, after nearly ten months, starting to come out the other side of that dark place.
I still have my copilots - we were chosen In Port Townsend, Washington by the amazing gray cat, Lily von Shtup, and my alter-ego, conscience and confidant, from downtown Hovenweep, Utah - ladies and gentlemen, give it up for my pal, "Adventure Rabbit."
I have the flexibility to work on the projects that I want to work on - an ongoing portrait project, model headshots and tests, and the things that I find along the way that speak to me.

For 2021 - back to West Glacier, Montana for the summer. After that, a swing through the Heartland, maybe the Smokies, and on to Texas, I think. A lot is still up in the air, and I'm not going to jump into anything until I've had a chance to ponder things a bit. I'm working on my mosey.
2022 will find me again in Montana. I have new challenges in Retail Management to work on.
If you'd like to discuss working with me, either as a model, portrait subject, or a local expert, I'd love to hear from you. If you just want to get together and drink beer with me and tell lies, that's good, too. I love meeting new people and Twitter has provided me with an amazing group of friends that I've been able to meet in the real world. I want to meet you, and if you're in the mood, I might take a few pictures, too.
