The Bio....

My name is Bud Simpson. This is not my given name. My given name is Orville, ergo Bud. I'm six feet four and a half inches tall and weigh, as of this writing, about 250 pounds. I am an unapologetic progressive. I'm opinionated, but always friendly to those with whom I disagree.

Having said that, I will not hold back when dealing with superstition, New-Age claptrap, psychics, faith-healers, astrologers, woo-woo artists, snake oil salesmen and anyone who thinks that the earth, flat or otherwise, is the center of the universe. Do not try to convert or convince me. The blood on the floor might be virtual, but it won't be mine.

I come to commercial photography by way of a fourth grade science fair project, parents who were inveterate snapshooters, and the mistaken belief as a teenager that photography might be a good way to meet girls. Especially naked girls.

My real love of photography is grounded in my inner geek and my refusal to take myself too seriously. I love the technology of silver based films, but digital photography and computer manipulation in Photoshop® and other applications was what I had been waiting for since 1969.

but...

With that idea in mind, I started a new venture at the beginning of 2007. I have joined the staff of Digital Labrador in Kansas City's Crossroads Arts District. Among other duties, I will help facilitate technologies to commercial and fine-art photographers, help maintain Labrador's information systems and try to parlay my knowledge and experience in commercial photography and digital imaging into useful information for others to draw upon.

My photographic focus has changed from full-on commercial photography back to what got me here in the first place - portrait and fine-art photography. I believe the best is yet to come.

Thank you to all my good friends in the industry for nearly twenty years of your support and respect.
